Entrepreneurial Book Review - Build From Scratch

                                                   Two great business minds
Bernie Marcus and Arthur Blank are the cofounders of The Home Depot. They serve as chairman of the board, and CEO (respectively). Marcus also sits on many boards, including the New York Stock Exchange. Blank was inducted into the Babson College Academy of Distinguished Entrepreneurs and is a trustee on many boards as well.
How to dominate in business
In three parts our writers share 16 chapters, discussing topics as: Never be satisfied with how things are (Ch. 4); Make mistakes, learn from them, and move on (Ch. 6); Market dominance is important (Ch. 9); Make sure people know they are empowered and do what is right (Ch. 14); Responding to change, one reason for success (Ch. 15).
Two regular guys became successful in business
Authors Marcus and Blank are enabled by Bob Andelman to share a compelling story of success. It is revealed in a personal, relevant flavor, punctuated by excellent advice to any budding business owner. They open with, "We're two regular guys from similar modest personal backgrounds and religious (Jewish) orientation who were given a strong drive to succeed by our respective parents." Their first success hint is displayed in these brief details.
Parental advice began the story of success before these two men knew what they would become. After a number of setbacks including being fired from their jobs, the following motherly advice set them up for greatness: "Don't spend time replaying the past; it only keeps you from focusing on the future." A mother's words can be gold!
Writers reveal past relationships that impacted their sales mentality. Pat Farrah was one such example. His success was described as, "He also loved the instant gratification that came from serving customers and making a sale."
